This section provides information regarding the installation of Help Producer, optional components, and HTML Help compilers.

Prerequisites

Microsoft Word

In order to install Help Producer, you need to have a licensed copy of Microsoft Word 2000, Microsoft Word 2002 (XP), Microsoft Word 2003, Microsoft Office Word 2007, or Microsoft Office Word 2010 installed on your computer.

License Key

In order to be able to install and use Help Producer without any limitations, you need to purchase a Help Producer license from MGTEK. For evaluation purposes, you can install Help Producer without a license key, which allows you to try all features of Help Producer for a period of 30 days, with the restriction of being able to generate a maximum of one hundred topic pages. If you wish to extent your evaluation time, you may contact MGTEK and request an extension key at no charge. If you are satisfied with the product, you can purchase a license from MGTEK that allows you to use Help Producer in a full production environment.

User Permissions

To install MGTEK Help Producer, you must have Administrator permissions for the machine on which you are installing the product. You do not need Administrator permissions to use MGTEK Help Producer after installation.

Installing Help Producer

To install Help Producer

  1. Ensure that your computer meets the minimum System Requirements.
  2. Ensure that you have installed Microsoft Word 2000 or higher.
  3. Double click helpproducer.exe to start the Setup Wizard.
  4. Follow the instructions in the Setup Wizard.

To uninstall Help Producer

  1. On the Windows taskbar, click Start and click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Add or Remove Programs.
  3. From the list of currently installed programs, select MGTEK Help Producer, and click Remove.

HTML Help Compiler Setup

In order to create compiled HTML Help 1.X files, you need to install Microsoft HTML Help Workshop. HTML Help Workshop includes the Microsoft HTML Help compiler, which is a required component if you want to create compiled help files.

In order to create compiled Microsoft Help 2.0 files, you need to install the Visual Studio Help Integration Kit (VSHIK). Note that the VSHIK requires Visual Studio .NET 2002 or Visual Studio .NET 2003. If you have Visual Studio 2005, please install the Visual Studio 2005 SDK, which includes the VSHIK.

HTML Help Workshop and the VSHIK can be obtained directly from Microsoft. If you have an Internet connection, you can download HTML Help Workshop and the VSHIK directly from Microsoft's website at no charge.
