In order to compile a HTML Help file, Help Producer requires write access to the file. If Help Producer was denied write-access, the message ‘Cannot open the HTML Help file for write access’ is displayed.
Possible causes for this message are:
- The help file is still in use by another running application, for instance the help viewer program. You should close all running instances of the help viewer before you proceed. You can use Windows Task Manager to locate the help viewer processes ‘hh.exe’ and terminate them.
- The read-only attribute is set. You can use Windows Explorer to remove the read-only attribute. Alternatively, you can simply delete the ‘output’ folder to have the content regenerated entirely when the help project is exported.
- You are working on a read-only drive or network share. You should work in a different location, or ask your network administrator for write privileges.
