MGTEK dopisp has a built-in audio converter, which converts songs to MP3 if the song is stored in a music format that cannot be played by an Apple iPod, for instance if the song is stored in the WMA file format. If the conversion occurs although you believe it should not, please try the suggestions below.

Turn off MP3 bitrate limitation

MGTEK dopisp has a feature (off by default) that allows you to convert MP3s to a specified bitrate if the song exceeds a maximum bitrate limit, in order to save disk space on your Apple iPod. Note that MGTEK dopisp can only detect the bit rate reliably if the song is encoded using a constant bitrate.

If you do not wish MP3s to be re-encoded, simply disable this feature.

  1. In Windows Media Player 11: Click the Now Playing tab twice to open the pull-down menu, then point to Plug-ins and click Options.
  2. In Windows Media Player 12: Click the menu Organize, then click Options and select the tab Plug-ins.
  3. From the list Category, select Background.
  4. From the list Background, select MGTEK dopisp and click Properties.
  5. On the tab Conversion, uncheck Re-encode MP3 file which bitrate exceed a bitrate limit.

You specified a music quality in Windows Media Player

If you specify a music quality setting in Windows Media Player, music conversion may occur even when you sync MP3 files. If a quality setting is specified, Windows Media Player attempts to convert the music file to the specified bit-rate. Unfortunately, Windows Media Player does not honor the devices capabilities, and always choose the WMA (Windows Media Audio) file format. Since a WMA music file cannot be played on an iPod, MGTEK dopisp will convert the WMA music file back to MP3.

To avoid this problem, do not select a music quality setting in Windows Media Player. Make sure that an automatic quality level is specified.

  1. In Windows Media Player, right-click the iPod icon and click Advanced Options.
  2. Select the tab Quality.
  3. Under Music, click Select quality level automatically.
